Useful Tips For Success I Learned From Richard Branson

by Sep 28, 2018

Richard Branson is one more successful individual that I respect a lot. I analyzed his work for years, and I learned a lot of things that helped me to understand better what I need to do if I want to become successful.

He was only 20 when founded Virgin. Now, he is the only entrepreneur who built eight separate billion-dollar companies in eight different industries. I know this is fascinating, but even more amazing is that he did it all without a degree in business.

I recommend you to read his book “Like a Virgin: Secrets They Won’t Teach You at Business School”. You will understand better that your future doesn’t depend on your college degree; it depends on your will and your effort to succeed in something big.

Each tip he provides is strong, and that is the reason why I would like to share with you some of them, and I am definitely sure you will feel more motivated to start your own business and to explore many things you didn’t before after you read them. So, let’s get started.

Don’t Do It If You Don’t Enjoy It

I repeated this many times, and I will repeat it again. Running a business takes a lot of sweat, tears, and blood (and caffeine as well, no sleeping). That is the reason why you need to feel proud of something you did at the end of the day. If you don’t have that feeling of pride, then don’t do it.

Branson started Virgin from his basement, and he didn’t even think about making a business empire. He was proud because he did something useful. He was focused on connecting talented people and making together with them a real difference to other people’s lives.

Be Visible

Just like Sir Freddie Laker said to Branson while he was building Virgin Airlines, make sure to appear on the front page and not the back pages. Do whatever it takes to sell yourself or you won’t survive.

Branson constantly travels all around the world because he wants to meet as many people as he can. In this way, he is collecting ideas and suggestions for his business. Sometimes, you need to listen to other people, even if they are not rich or famous, maybe their idea will make them rich and famous one day!

Choose Your Name Wisely

Name of your company will definitely help you to grow your brand. It needs to be something unique that everyone will recognize. “Virgin” is definitely something unique. It represents added value, improved service, and a fresh and sexy approach. Find some name for your brand that will be an attention-grabber.

You Can’t Run A Business Without Taking Risks

One of his favorite quotes, and mine as well, for taking business risks is – “The brave may not live forever – but the cautious do not live at all”.

There is no such thing as a successful business without taking risks. It is simply impossible to stay absolutely secured in your comfort zone and to make a business empire. There is also no such thing as a total failure. If you fail, get up and continue.

The First Impression Is Everything. So Is The Second.

The first impression is important even when you go on a date with the person you didn’t know before. When we talk about the business, it is million times more important. But, just like Branson says, you can’t stop there, the second impression is equally important.

When a customer contacts Virgin’s customer support for the second time, the main reason is that he or she is having a problem with the service or product. And that is the key, if your customer service helps the customer in the proper way, he will contact you the third time to buy another product or service.

Perfection Is Unattainable

No one and nothing on this planet is perfect, so why would you try to achieve something that is simply impossible? Branson said in his book that when people believe they have “nailed it”, most people tend to sit back and rest on their laurels while countless others will be laboring furiously to better their work.

That’s why he never gives anyone a 100% perfect review on their work. Not because he is never satisfied, but he wants that his employees believe there is always room for improvement.

Explore Uncharted Territory

Imagine the greatest scientists from the past didn’t want to explore the “uncharted territory”. You probably won’t be able to read this article because no one would invent the Internet.

There are many things out there that we need to explore. Branson is constantly researching something new. He is interested in science and geography. He knows that there are many things that we haven’t discovered, achieved and invented yet. But, without exploring, it is simply not impossible to get new ideas, doesn’t matter how smart you really are.

So, what are you waiting? Start your own research!
